Foundations of Substance Abuse Prevention

Workshop Description
This introductory workshop provides an overview of the foundational theory, principles, and strategies within the field of substance abuse prevention. The course is appropriate for those new to substance abuse prevention or for those who want a general refresher course. Learn about prevention research and theory, and traditional prevention approaches. Data-driven planning, evidence-based implementation, and outcome-based decision making are covered in this one day training.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify different strategies that span individually focused and environmentally focused prevention
- Identify a five part process to achieve environmental change
- Map out potential strategies to modify risk in participant’s environments
About the Presenter
Angela Da Re. Angela has over 13 years of experience in the field of substance use and youth violence prevention programs, as well as community mobilization. She has worked with both large and small prevention and early intervention agencies state-wide. Angela has been trained in multiple evidence-based programs and has worked extensively with schools and local agencies. In addition to working on community based prevention, Angela has extensive experience working on various agency and community-based evaluation projects. Angela has been certified by the Western Center for the Application of Prevention Technologies (WESTCAPT) as a Substance Abuse Prevention Specialist Trainer. |
