The CTN DISSEMINATION LIBRARY is a digital repository of resources created by and about NIDA's National Drug Abuse Treatment Clinical Trials Network (CTN). It provides CTN members and the public with a single point of access to research findings and other materials that are approved for dissemination throughout the CTN and to the larger community of providers, researchers and policy-makers.
- Alcohol and Teenage Brain Development (Orchid Treatment Center)
The teenage years are a time of great excitement and experimentation. Teenagers are eager to step into the “adult” world and as a result, experiment with drugs and alcohol. According to the U.S Surgeon General, about 5000 kids under 21 die every year because of alcohol-related injuries caused by underage drinking. Adolescence should be a healthy, wholesome stage of life and not marked by injuries and illnesses caused by alcohol and substance abuse. Learn more about adolescence, the development of the brain and substance use during this phase, as well as how substance use can affect adolescents in the long-term.

The American Council for Drug Education is a substance abuse prevention and education agency that develops programs and materials based on the most current scientific research on drug use and its impact on society. ACDE has an exciting range of educational programs and services designed to engage teens, address the needs of parents, and provide employers, educators, health professionals, policy-makers and the media with authoritative information on tobacco, alcohol and drugs such as marijuana, cocaine and heroin. - Baltimore Substance Abuse Systems
BSAS is the designated substance abuse treatment and prevention authority for Baltimore City. The organization is responsible for the administration of federal, state and local grant funds for substance abuse treatment and prevention services. bSAS administers funding, monitors treatment programs, collects client demographic and treatment data, works in collaboration with other agencies to improve services, and plans for the development of new services. bSAS does not provide treatment services directly but does provide information and referral.
- CA Department of Alcohol and Drug Programs (ADP)
ADP leads efforts to reduce alcoholism, drug addiction and problem gambling in California by developing, administering and supporting prevention, treatment and recovery programs.
- CADAAC Approved AOD Prevention Course
This 45 hour certificate and CE program is appropriate for individuals who have a role in prevention; AOD and mental health professionals, social workers, and other social service workers. The purpose of this training is to provide an overview of basic information for substance abuse prevention professionals. This course will review environmental strategies and prevention efforts that aim to change or influence community standards, institutions, structures, and attitudes that shape individuals' behaviors. Focus is on SAMHSA’s Strategic Prevention Framework.

- Gateway to Prevention and Recovery
A certified Alcohol & Drug Abuse Treatment Program since 1985, Gateway provides outpatient counseling to more than 1,200 clients annually through offices in Shawnee, Chandler, and Boley (John H. Lilley Correctional Center). Treatment services are provided based on client need, regardless of ability to pay. Gateway's mission is to reduce addiction, related mental health issues, and related family problems. Gateway's philosophy is that chemical dependency is a primary, progressive and, unless treated, terminal disease. Gateway, in partnership with the Shawnee Public Schools, provides a Student Assistance Program counselor who works with students and staff at the middle school and high school.

The Indiana Prevention Resource Center (IPRC) was established in 1987 to assist Indiana based alcohol, tobacco and other drug (ATOD) prevention practitioners improve the quality of their services. In recent years our purview has expanded to include problem gambling prevention and ATOD treatment. The IPRC, located in Bloomington, is part of the Department of Applied Health Science at Indiana University. Our primary target audience is the community of prevention professionals and volunteers, and government officials who are providing or monitoring delivery of ATOD and problem gambling prevention and treatment services to Indiana residents. We enable prevention and treatment professionals to deliver evidence based programs, policies and practices to the general public.

- Minnesota Prevention Resource Center
The Minnesota Prevention Resource Center (MPRC) is a project of the Minnesota Institute of Public Health (MIPH). MPRC is funded primarily through a grant from the Chemical Health Division, Minnesota Department of Human Services. We at MPRC support people like you who work to promote the public health and prevent the problems caused by substance abuse. This includes tobacco and drug use, underage alcohol use and the misuse of alcohol by adults.

- National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse (CASA)
The National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse (CASA) at Columbia University is the only nation-wide organization that brings together under one roof all the professional disciplines needed to study and combat abuse of all substances – alcohol, nicotine as well as illegal, prescription and performance enhancing drugs – in all sectors of society.
- National Inhalant Prevention Coalition
NIPC is a public-private effort to promote awareness and recognition of the under publicized problem of inhalant use. The NIPC serves as an inhalant referral and information clearinghouse, stimulates media coverage about inhalant issues, develops informational materials, produces ViewPoint (a quarterly newsletter), provides training and technical assistance and leads a week-long national grassroots inhalant education and awareness campaign. NIPC works with various entities and organizations throughout the country to educate and devise awareness and prevention campaigns designed to educate youth and adults about the effects of these dangerous gateway drugs. NIPC also provides inservice training for educators. Through NIPC's quarterly newsletter, resource bank, media relations, targeted initiatives and national contacts, NIPC puts organizations and individuals in touch with the latest research, the best ideas and news of successful programs to enhance local efforts.
- Nebraska Partners in Prevention
In September, 2001, the State of Nebraska entered into a partnership with Substance Abuse and Mental Health Service's Administration's (SAMHSA) Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP) to substantially reduce substance abuse by Nebraska youth. Through this partnership-the State Incentive Cooperative Agreement (SICA)-Nebraska communities will benefit from $7.5 million in direct federal funding to support the following mission: Eliminate or significantly reduce substance abuse in youth ages 12-17 by creating a coordinated state prevention system that assists communities to assess local substance abuse needs and select and implement locally-appropriate, effective, and scientifically-defensible substance abuse prevention policies, practices, and programs. Through SICA , local communities will benefit from federal funding to implement effective, locally-appropriate substance abuse prevention programming, policies and practices to decrease substance abuse among youth.

Through its Bureau of Prevention, OASAS leads New York State's efforts to prevent alcohol, and other drug problems. - Prevention by Design
Prevention by Design helps local agencies and organizations protect community public health and safety, and promote community well-being, through an environmental planning approach designed to prevent alcohol/drug problems and related public health and public safety problems. Through the PreventionNet website, information concerning the most effective prevention programs currently available is provided in a brief and straightforward way.
- Renaissance Prevention Program
The Renaissance Prevention Program was designed and implemented by Pennsylvania Counseling Services, Inc. as a program run through the Renaissance Counseling Center, the Drug and Alcohol Abuse division of Lebanon PCS. Renaissance Prevention has been working cooperatively with the County of Lebanon and has been funded by the County since its beginning years. PCS and Lebanon County Drug & Alcohol work under a contract to handle the Prevention Services for all of Lebanon County. We primarily run reoccurring services such as Project Alert and Project Toward No Drug Abuse, but we also attend health fairs and host events such as Teens Against Tobacco Use (TATU Day). Our Lending Library has many resources available to persons in the community. In addition, Prevention staff is involved in Communities Mobilizing for Change on Alcohol (CMCA), the Under 20 Festival, and Communities that Care.
- Southern Tier of New York Methamphetamine Prevention Program
The Southern Tier of New York Methamphetamine Prevention Program is a coalition comprised of a variety of agencies and members from the Southern Tier (Broome, Tioga, and Chemung counties) that have joined together to educate the community on the dangers of use, addiction, and manufacture of Methamphetamine. The coalition was founded by Dr. Ellen Vachon in March of 2006, and generally meets monthly.

- The White House Office of National Drug Control Policy
The principal purpose of ONDCP is to establish policies, priorities, and objectives for the Nation's drug control program. The goals of the program are to reduce illicit drug use, manufacturing, and trafficking, drug-related crime and violence, and drug-related health consequences. To achieve these goals, the Director of ONDCP is charged with producing the National Drug Control Strategy. The Strategy directs the Nation's anti-drug efforts and establishes a program, a budget, and guidelines for cooperation among Federal, State, and local entities.
- Valley Prevention Services, Inc.
Valley Prevention Services (VPS) is a private nonprofit,501(c)(3), organization that provides alcohol, tobacco and other drug prevention and education services in Lycoming and Clinton Counties, Pennsylvania. The agency is governed by a nine member volunteer Board of Directors who work or reside in either Lycoming or Clinton County. VPS employees five full time staff, two half time staff and three part time staff. With offices in Williamsport and Lock Haven, VPS provides a full range substance abuse prevention and education services beginning at the preschool age, through the elementary and high school age to adult. We do not provide clinical, therapeutic or counseling services.

- What Works Wisconsin: Effective Prevention and Intervention Programs
What Works, Wisconsin is a project of the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s School of Human Ecology and the University of Wisconsin-Extension’s Family Living Program. Initiated in 2004, the What Works project focuses on distilling the latest scientific knowledge on effective policies, practices, and programs, including “evidence-based programs,” for youth and their families, schools, and communities. In addition to disseminating this information to practitioners and policymakers, the What Works staff provide technical assistance on program design, improvement and evaluation. Through publications, presentations, workshops and individualized technical assistance, the What Works team provides practitioners and policymakers with the tools to develop effective programs and evaluate and improve existing programming based on state-of-the-art knowledge of what makes programs effective.

- Aunt Martha's Youth Service Center, Inc.
For over 20 years, Aunt Martha's has provided opportunities to families who were on the verge of losing hope. Families have always needed support, and today’s family is increasingly in need of resources and opportunities. Our services have evolved to include educational support, employment training and youth development. We help children, youth and families discover their interests and provide resources and support to help develop skills. Aunt Martha’s Youth Service Center's Prevention Services offers comprehensive resources to families to build, strengthen and development independence, confidence and growth.
- Building Blocks for Youth
In response to current research on the overrepresentation in almost every state of African-American, Latino, and Native American youth in the juvenile justice system and recent trends in more than 40 states to increase prosecution of youths in adult court - the impact of which falls disproportionately on youth of color - the Building Blocks for Youth initiative's goals are to: 1) Reduce overrepresentation and disparate treatment of youth of color in the justice system; and 2) Promote fair, rational and effective juvenile justice policies. The initiative's partners include the Youth Law Center, American Bar Association Juvenile Justice Center, Juvenile Law Center, Justice Policy Institute, Minorities in Law Enforcement, National Council on Crime and Delinquency, and Pretrial Services Resource Center.

Casey Family Services was established in 1976 as a fully licensed, nonprofit child welfare agency dedicated to helping children in foster care and provides services that support safe, stable, and lifelong family relationships for children and youth both in foster care and in the struggling communities in which it works. Casey Family Services offers a continuum of services, including Foster care and adoption, Family advocacy, preservation, and reunification, Adoption support and other post-permanency services, Community-based family strengthening and resource centers and is committed to disseminating lessons learned to improve child welfare practice and policy at the local, state, and national levels. Its Casey Center for Effective Child Welfare Practice provides technical assistance, consultation, and training to state systems across the nation. In addition, CFS leads policy change on a host of issues related to improving permanency outcomes for children and youth in foster care.

The Center for Advanced Studies in Child Welfare (CASCW) was established in 1992 with federal Title IV-E funding and a grant from the Bush Foundation. The Child and Adolescent Services Research Center (CASRC) is a consortium of over 100 investigators and staff from multiple research organizations in San Diego County, including Rady Children's Hospital, University of California at San Diego, San Diego State University, University of San Diego, and California State University, San Marcos. CASRC has a strategic focus on improvement of public pediatric mental health care through a program of mental health services research that spans clinical epidemiology studies linked to evidence-based practice, effectiveness and quality of care studies, and implementation studies that include organizational, financing, and policy issues. An overarching perspective of cultural exchange guides an active partnership with stakeholders in youth mental health care across various public sectors. The CASRC mission includes a strong focus on research that informs efforts to decrease racial-ethnic disparities.

- Colorado Department of Human Services Division of Child Welfare
The Colorado Department of Human Services' Child Welfare is a division located in the Office of Children, Youth and Family Services. It consists of a group of services intended to protect children from harm and to assist families in caring for and protecting their children. Taken together, these programs comprise the main thrust of Colorado’s effort to meet the needs of children who must be placed or are at risk of placement outside of their homes for reasons of protection or community safety. These appropriations fulfill the State’s obligation to fund these services which it mandates the counties to provide, and to generate match and maintenance of effort for federal funding. The delivery of Child Welfare Services in Colorado is primarily a state-supervised, county administered system.

The Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (JJDP) Act establishes the Coordinating Council on Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (Council) as an independent body within the executive branch of the federal government. - National Child Welfare Workforce Institute
The purpose of the National Child Welfare Workforce Institute (NCWWI) is to build the capacity of the nation’s child welfare workforce and improve outcomes for children and families through activities that support the development of skilled child welfare leaders in public, private, and Tribal child welfare systems. The NCWWI also serves as a workforce resource to other members of the T&TA Network. NCWWI staff include faculty from social work schools at eight universities around the country that were funded by the Children's Bureau in 2003 as grantees for "Developing Models of Effective Child Welfare Staff Recruitment and Retention Training." - Reach, Inspire Connect: Child Welfare Fatherhood Project
Through the Child Welfare Fatherhood Project (CWFP), challenges and opportunities surrounding fatherhood practices in child welfare will be documented, such as perspectives and experiences of fathers, child welfare, and community professionals. The populations of fathers most affected by the child welfare process include African Americans, Latinos, adolescent fathers, or those who have issues of current or past incarceration. The CWFP is innovative in its multi-level approach to advancing fatherhood practice for professionals in child welfare and community agencies. Focus groups, training, interviews, and a newly developed clinical-mapping tool are at the core of this project and its focus on enhancing existing fatherhood practices. The data obtained through these combined methods will be used to implement improvements in child welfare's current fatherhood practices directly linked to safety, permanency and well-being for children and youth involved with child welfare.

The Institute for Community Peace is a private, non-profit organization with 501(c) 3 status. This sourcebook, which builds on a 1993 publication, "The Prevention of Youth Violence: A Framework for Community Action," offers insight into best practices to prevent violence by children and adolescents. It was developed with input from people working to prevent youth violence and people whose positions made them likely to play a role in violence prevention efforts. Researchers interviewed teachers, school administrators, members of community-based organizations, employees and volunteers at social service agencies, health department personnel, program planners and practitioners, and researchers from universities across the United States regarding what they would like to see in a sourcebook.
- Center for the Study and Prevention of Violence
In an effort to establish more complete and valuable information to impact violence-related policies, programs, and practices, CSPV works from a multi-disciplinary platform on the subject of violence and facilitates the building of bridges between the research community and the practitioners and policy makers.
- Denver Crime Prevention and Control Commission
Established by City Ordinance in April, 2005, the Crime Prevention and Control Commission has been operating since September, 2005. The Commission is housed within the Manager of Safety's Office and is composed of 32 designated system representatives and appointed community members. The Commission achieves its work through five committees: Community Reentry, Mental Health, Racial and Gender Disparity, System Performance, Youth.
- Division of Injury and Violence Prevention
DIVP is a division of the Virginia Department of Health that focuses on the prevention of unintentional, intentional and self-inflicted injuries. Division activities include assessment and reporting, training and consultation, policy development and implementation, community projects and safety device dissemination. - Family Violence Prevention Fund
For more than two decades, the Family Violence Prevention Fund (FVPF) has worked to end violence against women and children around the world. Instrumental in developing the landmark Violence Against Women Act passed by Congress in 1994, the FVPF has continued to break new ground by reaching new audiences including men and youth, promoting leadership within communities to ensure that violence prevention efforts become self-sustaining, and transforming the way health care providers, police, judges, employers and others address violence.

The Illinois Center for Violence Prevention fosters safe communities for people at every stage of life. We identify, promote and evaluate the best ways to prevent violence.
- Maryland Crime Prevention Association, Inc.
The mission of the Maryland Crime Prevention Association, Inc. (MCPA), a professional association, is to facilitate the promotion and advancement of crime prevention information and activities in the state of Maryland. The MCPA organization is committed to effective and efficient crime prevention programming throughout Maryland. MCPA is a collaboration of crime prevention practitioners and interested citizens throughout the State of Maryland. Our members include police, sheriff, correctional, security professionals, business people and community leaders, as well as interested citizens and crime prevention supporters from across our state.
- Milwaukee Public Schools Violence Prevention Program
The Violence Prevention Program (VPP) is an effort by the Milwaukee Public Schools to respond to the violence that is prevalent within our schools and community. As part of the Department of Psychological Services, under the coordination of Dr. Audrey Potter, The VPP has served K-12 public schools in the city of Milwaukee since 1988. The team is currently comprised of educators who operate under the following mission statement:

NCDSV dessigns, provides and customizes training and consultation; infulences policy and enhances diversity wih the goal of ending domestic and sexual violence.
- National Violence Prevention Network
The National Violence Prevention Network is a broad-based coalition of national organizations dedicated to violent death prevention by advocating for the full implementation of the National Violent Death Reporting System (NVDRS) in the United States.
- National Youth Gang Center
The National Youth Gang Center is funded by and operates under the auspices of the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP). The Center is a major component of OJJDP’s Comprehensive Response to America’s Gang Problem.
- NY State Gang Prevention
The Capital Region Gang Prevention Center builds on the existing Albany Gang Prevention Program model and assists Albany County, Rennselaer County and Schenectady County in developing a similar model in their communities. The center, located at 175 Central Ave,. Albany 12206, serves as a resource and a catalyst to all communities, organizations and individuals committed to strengthening neighborhoods and finding new and successful ways to provide children with the resources and opportunities they need and deserve to succeed.
- Olweus Bullying Prevention Program
The Olweus [pronounced Ol-VEY-us] Bullying Prevention Program is a comprehensive, school-wide program designed for use in elementary, middle, or junior high schools. Its goals are to reduce and prevent bullying problems among school children and to improve peer relations at school. The program has been found to reduce bullying among children, improve the social climate of classrooms, and reduce related antisocial behaviors, such as vandalism and truancy. The Olweus Program has been implemented in more than one dozen countries around the world.
- Springtide Resources
Springtide Resources promotes healthy and equal relationships by engaging diverse communities in shared educational strategies designed to prevent violence against women and the effect it has on children.
- Stop Cyber-Bullying
Educating the kids about the consequences (losing their ISP or IM accounts) helps. Teaching them to respect others and to take a stand against bullying of all kinds helps too. Because their motives differ, the solutions and responses to each type of cyberbullying incident has to differ too. Unfortunately, there is no "one size fits all" when cyberbullying is concerned. Only two of the types of cyberbullies have something in common with the traditional schoolyard bully. Experts who understand schoolyard bullying often misunderstand cyberbullying, thinking it is just another method of bullying. But the motives and the nature of cybercommunications, as well as the demographic and profile of a cyberbully differ from their offline counterpart.
- Stop Handgun Violence
Stop Handgun Violence is a non-profit organization committed to the prevention of gun violence through education, public awareness, effective law enforcement and common sense gun laws. With 83 gun deaths in the U.S. everyday—more than Columbine and Virginia Tech combined—it's time we start putting lives before politics. We are not calling for restrictions to our Constitutional Rights, but just common sense legislation that will help save lives.
- The Office for Victims of Crime
The mission of OVC is to enhance the Nation’s capacity to assist crime victims and to provide leadership in changing attitudes, policies, and practices to promote justice and healing for all victims.
- The Violence Prevention Institute
The Violence Prevention Institute provides Education, Research, Prevention and Intervention programs designed to address the increasing incidence of violent youth behavior. The Institute uses evidence based research models to assist states, cities, law enforcement, and school boards in designing strategies to address the increasing societal problems associated with violent behavior in youth and young adults. Participants are taught corrective skills to change attitudes about gun violence, gang activities and other negative social behaviors, in order to improve school performance, family relationships, reduce criminal activities, and acquire skills that maximize their ability to effectively negotiate peer relationships and other social interactions.
- Violence Prevention Center
The mission of the Violence Prevention Center is to eliminate domestic and sexual violence against women, men, children and their families in Cook County; and until that time to facilitate their recovery, growth and change. To accomplish this goal, the Violence Prevention Center will:Provide advocacy and intervention services for survivors of domestic and sexual violence. Mobilize community resources in the resolution of crisis while addressing ongoing economic, psychological, legal and social needs. Act as a catalyst in creating a community atmosphere in which domestic and sexual violence is not tolerated. Promote equal access to community resources necessary for each and every person.
- YWCA Family Violence Prevention Project
The Family Violence Prevention Project's mission is to eliminate and prevent family violence in communities throughout Hamilton County. The Project empowers individuals, neighborhoods, organizations, schools, and systems-based structures to implement comprehensive strategic initiatives that prevent Intimate Partner Abuse, Child Abuse, Abuse of People with Disabilities, and Elder Abuse. While the Family Violence Prevention's Project's ultimate goal is to prevent family violence, its short-term and intermediate goals are to change community attitudes and values that tolerate family violence; increase knowledge and use of alternatives to violent behavior; and to increase protective factors for populations at-risk for family violence. The collaborative is comprised of over 40 public and private agencies that represent various perspectives in the field of family violence and span the spectrum of family violence service provision from the medical community to the criminal justice system.
